Judging People by Their Appearance
Everyone has heard the saying «Never judge a book by its cover». Here comes the same thing to people. We all know, that we should never judge other people by external appearance, their skin color, the way they dress or express themselves. But why do we often judge others by their appearance?
I personally believe that judging about anyone by his outer appearance, we perform a tremendous mistake. I have numerous examples in my life when I didn’t like the people at first site but eventually they have become my friends.
Diverse cultures and subcultures determine the appearance of their followers, but they don’t determine the entire consciences and qualities of the representatives. There is a great number of various types of clothes all over the world and if the woman from an Arab country wears a headscarf it doesn’t mean that she is a terrorist. It’s most probably the part of her culture, but unfortunately we have in mind stereotypes from mass media. Even in one country numerous subcultures represent the different types of the appearances. That’s why it is highly important to bear in mind that good and bad people are everywhere.
As a matter of fact people have bad and good days and they look and behave accordingly to their moods. It’s quite common when a person, having temporary money problems, wears and looks not too exquisite and, even he’s a good specialist, it will be hard for him to find a job. Sometimes a person doesn’t have enough time to maintain the glamorous appearance, what obviously doesn’t signify that he is worse than another one, spending his time in a beauty shop.
Someone, who doesn’t have excellent exterior, could have other, more important qualities. Will you be friends with the beautiful but stupid and selfish person? Certainly you won’t. He could be a good musician, awesome orator and perfect sportsman, but you wouldn’t give him a chance to show all these talents if you paid attention only to the imperfect appearance.
To sum up, I want to say that beauty goes deeper than just what is on the outer surface. If people do not try to give all people a chance they are limiting themselves and lessening their chance to making new friends, which could make their life more fun and interesting. Only external appearance can not make a person. A person with a bad appearance can be a great person. All people are born equal regardless of our outer appearance. Which means all people should create a positive judgment when judging the external and internal features of a person accurately.
